Well, it seems so real, I can see it And it seems so real, I can feel it And it seems so real, I can taste it And it seems so real, I can hear it So why, can't I touch it? So why, can't I touch it? But then it looks so real, I can see it And it feels so real, I can feel it And it tastes so real, I can taste it And it sounds so real, I can hear it So why, can't I touch it? So why, can't I touch it? Then it looks so real, I can feel it And it feels so real, I can taste it And it tastes so real, I can hear it And it sounds so real, I can see it So why, can't I touch it? So why, can't I touch it? Now it is so real, I can see it And it is so real, I can feel it And it is so real, I can hear it And it is so real, I can be it So why, can't I touch it? So why, can't I touch it?

about

Dewey Defeats Truman release covers of Wire and Buzzcocks

On the heels of their "The Way You Shatter E.P." on Silver Girl Records, San Diego trio Dewey Defeats Truman checks back in with "Cover Your Ears," the band’s unfiltered take on two iconic post-punk gems, “Why Can’t I Touch It,” by Buzzcocks, and “Kidney Bingos” by Wire. The two-song single will be debut on Bandcamp on Friday, September 15th.

“Taking a momentary break from writing new material, we decided to have fun with two songs that have long resonated with us,” offers guitarist/vocalist Mark MacBride, regarding the release of “Cover Your Ears.” Across both covers, Dewey Defeats Truman replicated the live-to-tape feel of the original recordings. “I was thrilled when the guys both agreed to record these songs as they host two of my favorite basslines ever. We had a blast recording them,” adds bassist and vocalist James Reader.

Buoyed by the positive press that followed the release of “The Way You Shatter,” a stellar if altogether too-brief collection of the band’s first new songs after a long extended hiatus, Dewey Defeats Truman has been writing and recording their forthcoming album. The trio, rounded out by drummer Scott Frazier, is currently sifting through a ton of song variants and ideas that have been piling up since they reformed in 2018, with songs in various stages of development from completely done and mastered, to rough rehearsal recording and bedroom demo sketches. Tentatively titled “Fading Out Again,” the band is planning for an early 2024 release, with several songs from the album being released in the coming months.
